Ride Competitively, Enjoy Camaraderie at Flintrock Stables
Flintrock Stables is a top-quality hunter/jumper show barn that handles every aspect of horsemanship from the absolute beginner to the “AA” circuit competitor. Flintrock’s staff provides an extensive variety of equestrian services, including lessons, boarding, training, sales/investment horses, winning at rated and schooling horse shows, and more. Flintrock Stables focuses on the progression of horse and rider, helping clients achieve their show goals while maintaining a spirit of team camaraderie. In 2009, the farm’s horses and riders were awarded nine Championships, five Reserve Championships and numerous other high score awards by CPJHSA, EPPHA, and PHSA. Riders qualified for Zone II and Gittings finals and won high point awards at local show series and ribbons in the locals division of the Pennsylvania National Horse Show.
The training programs at Flintrock Stables are calibrated to the specific needs of each hunter or jumper, and designed to bring out the best in all horses. The trainers can improve your show horse or keep it “fine-tuned” and have a proven record of success with green horses. Flintrock Stables offers a comprehensive and detail-oriented lesson program for beginner to advanced riders. Private or semi-private lessons focus on flatwork, gymnastics, schooling courses, and proper equitation based on the rider’s aspirations and abilities. The program has five safe and experienced lesson horses, and unlike many top show barns, ship-ins are welcome.
Head Trainer and Stable Manager Scott Burkhart has been a trainer, instructor, coach, and competitor over 40 years and is well known for his expertise in the hunter/ jumper arena. Scott is also an "R" Judge in Hunters, Jumpers, Hunt Seat Equitation, and Hunter Breeding and serves on the Zone 2 Hunter committee.
Erika Bender, Assistant Stable Manager, directs the beginner/intermediate lesson program. A University of Findlay (Ohio) graduate with a B.S. in English Equestrian Studies and Equine Business Management, she placed third at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) national show in 2002 and was 8th in 2003. Erika is Certified Horsemanship Association certified and is on the board of the Susquehanna Horse Show Association.
Kayley Kloss joined Flintrock Stables in 2009 as Assistant Trainer and Professional Rider after training with Frank Madden, Timmy Kees, Callan Solem and others. Her illustrious show career includes a win over fences at the 1996 Small Pony Hunter Finals and multiple Medal, Maclay, and USEF qualifiers. As a professional, she placed in the Top 10 at Capitol Challenge in Pre-Green Hunters, and has enjoyed success with Jumpers at Levels 4, 5, 6 and in the 7-8 year old Young Jumper division.
