June/July 2026 Issue

A Letter from the Publisher Dear Readers, With this June/July issue, The East Coast Equestrian begins a visible new chapter. For more than three decades, this publication has been made for horse people, and that phrase matters to us. It is both simple, and it holds the promise we make to our audience. The East Coast Equestrian is not for one disci- pline, one breed, one level of competition, or one narrow definition of belonging. It is for riders, owners, trainers, breeders, foxhunters, eventers, dressage riders, jumpers, trail riders, backyard barn families, amateurs, professionals, once-upon-a-time riders, the-maybe-some- dayers, and anyone who still turns to look when a horse trailer passes. Being a horse person is bigger than ownership and competition. It is not just a sport, and not simply a lifestyle. For many of us, it is a life, a unifying identity. Horses shape our days, friendships, memories, hopes, responsibilities, drive for information, and sense of ourselves. They ask us for patience, humility, courage, discipline, care, and the pursuit of better communion. That spirit guided our new look. Our former masthead served us well, but it was time for our visual identity to evolve, too. Like the old one, and like our lives, the new logo keeps the horse at the center -- sur- rounded by the familiar red. That means richer photography, stronger color, more beautiful advertising, and a longer shelf life. This issue’s cover feels fitting. At a time when the world can feel di- vided, horses still gather us into one community. Across states, barns, rings, fields, disciplines, and generations, we are bound by our love of horses and the shared language that comes with it. As part of this transition, we are making an important change to our subscriber program to match the times. For years, The East Coast Equestrian offered lifetime subscriptions at a modest one-time price. We are grateful to those readers, and your lifetime connection to this magazine remains valued and honored. At the same time, changing print and mailing costs no longer allow us to continue lifetime mailed delivery at scale. Printing costs have in- creased 44% over our lifetime, and postal costs +190%. We want this publication to continue work for everyone — readers, subscribers, ad- vertisers, small equestrian businesses, and the broader horse commu- nity. We are preserving access in several ways: Lifetime subscribers will continue to have free online access. Those who want the printed version delivered directly to you by mail may continue to do so at a special legacy rate of $19 per year, below our true cost and below many comparable equestrian publications. We are not adding a paywall, and printed copies will remain free at hundreds of tack shops, feed stores, shows, events, and pickup locations throughout our region if you care to pick one up. To subscribe you can visit our website, or use the QR code below. Thank you for being part of this next chapter. Our exterior is re- freshed, but our hearts and our commitment is the same: To inform, educate, connect, and serve the horse people, farms, businesses, events, and traditions that give this community its character, purpose, and en- during value. Onward and upward, Brooke Knight Warner Publisher & Owner, East Coast Equestrian Break the Cycle Before Rescue. Before Surrender. Before Suffering. No hoof no horse is true, but unhappy bel- lies create suffering long before we see it in hooves, failing health, or bad behavior – the impact from which goes long into the future. Feed insecurity is often the first warning sign of a deeper crisis. Left unaddressed, it can spi- ral into declining condition, surrender, rescue intervention, or worse. No Horse Hungry exists to intervene earlier—to break that cycle. Launched by East Coast Equestrian, in partnership with the horse com- munity, No Horse Hungry helps keep horses fed when owners face finan- cial hardship—without shame, judgment, or unnecessary red tape. By helping earlier, we can prevent deeper crisis and keep horses healthy and stable with the people who love them. The need is real—and growing. We are in the early stages of building this network.
