Early in his career, working with so-called “problem” horses led him beyond superficial training methods to a deeper understanding of psychology, feel, and timing. Influenced by Ray Hunt, Tom Dorrance, andothermasters,Kingembracedanapproach that values the horse’s emotional andmental experience as much as the physical. He has since started more than 2,000 young horses under saddle andbuilt a career helping riders developamore complete partnershipwith their horses. Time spent withRayHunt and later withMark Russell,astudentofNunoOliveira,expandedhisfocustoincludebiomechanics and the integration of physical balance with emotional understanding. King teaches internationally and works with riders worldwide through his Academy for Classical Horsemanship. He continues advanced study in the U.S. and abroad, including time at theRoyal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art inSpainandwithLuisValença inPortugal. Returning tocompetitionafter a 20-year hiatus, he earned his USDF Bronze and Silver medals in a single weekend each. He now teaches his uniquemethodof equine bodywork to horse owners and therapists around the world, in which the horse participates in the process by showing the practitioner where tension has accumulatedandwhen ithasbeenreleased.The result is an effective method that anyone can learn to improve performance and open new levels of communication and trust with the horse.
