Aachen in Gold and Bronze The U.S. came home from the FEI World Championships in Aachen with its strongest story rooted squarely on the East Coast. The eventing team earned bronze on 113.5 penalties, with Will Coleman and Diabolo finishing fourth individually. Coleman and Boyd Martin both jumped double-clear on the final day, a meaningful result for a program whose Pennsylvania and Virginia base remains central to American eventing. Thenparadressageraisedtheceiling:Rebecca Hart of Wellington, Florida; Fiona Howard of Boston; Kate Shoemaker of Wellington; and Marie Vonderheyden of Wellington won team gold with a championship-record score. By the final Sunday, U.S. para athletes had collected six goldmedals. ### Hampton Classic Ends Summer At Full Volume Bridgehampton supplied the emphatic close to the Northeast’s outdoor show season. La Ti Da, a 2023Westfalen filly bred by Raehaven Farms in Newton, New Jersey, owned by Jay and Karen Raach of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, and handled byJay,wasnamedBestYoungHorseandEast Overall Grand Hunter Breeding Champion. Thereserve,Mockingjay,connectedVirginia owner SusanTice-GrossmanwithMaryland breederHighPointHanoverians.Onthepony side,nearly60entriescontested$10,000atthe USHJAYoungHunter PonyChampionships. Overall grand champion No Chance CMB - ‘Chad’ at home - won at his first real horse showwith Virginia rider Vivienne Noel. ### The AEC Shows How Deep The Base Has Become The USEA American Eventing Champion- ships closed August at the Kentucky Horse Park with national titles stretching from Starter throughAdvanced. BoydMartin and Shanroe Cooley won the $60,000 Adequan Advanced Final after a clear show-jumping round.Yetthelargerstorywasscale:children, adultamateurs,professionalsandhome-pro- duced horses all arrived through the same championshipgate.ForEastCoastriders,the AEC is a useful annual census of ambition. ### State Legislators Back a Federal Donkey-Trade Ban TheNationalConferenceofStateLegislatures adopted a policy resolution supporting the bipartisan Ejiao Act, H.R. 5544, giving the equine-welfaremeasureasignificantnational endorsement.Thebillwouldprohibitthesale, transportation and purchase in the United Statesofejiaoproducts,donkeysanddonkey hides intended for ejiao production. Ejiao, a gelatin made by boiling donkey hides, is used in traditionalmedicines, cosmetics and other consumer products. Brooke USA and itscoalitionpartnersarguethatinternational demand has fueled the slaughter and theftof millions of donkeys, harming both animal welfareandfamiliesthatdependonworking equinesfortransportation,incomeandaccess to food andwater.TheNCSL resolution does not itself change federal law, but it gives sup- portersabipartisanpolicystatementtocarry into congressional deliberations. ### WIHS Puts A Number On Horse-Show Economics Aneconomic-impactreportreleasedAugust 5 gave the Washington International Horse Show a more concrete business story head- ing into its October 19-25 return to Upper Marlboro.The 2025 showdrewan estimated 16,000spectatorsand826exhibitors,officials, support personnel and vendors. Direct outlays totaled $6.077 million, producing an estimated $8.946 million impact in Prince George’s County and supporting 61.4 full-time-equivalentjobs.Thereportcounted 3,632 local hotel room nights, while viewers in 81 countries extended the reach well beyond the arena. ### MassachusettsTurnsTowardFinalsSeason The Northeast’s outdoor season made its September turn at Fieldstone Show Park in Halifax, Massachusetts, where the North East Classic included a USHJA Outreach Festival.Nextcomestheindoortest:theNew England Equitation Championships inWest Springfield, October 14-18, including the East final of the IHSA/USHJA 3’3” Hunter Seat Medal.
